In 2014 the United States Department of Veterans Affairs undertook the most comprehensive analysis of Veteran suicide rates, examining over 55 million Veteran records from 1979 to 2014 from every state. Based on that data, the Department of Veteran Affairs estimated the number of Veteran deaths by suicide in the U.S. at twenty-two (22) per day.
We call on all Veteran organizations, all Veterans, their families and friends and all Americans, to join us in petitioning the White House to designate July 22 as ‘Veteran’s Suicide Awareness Day.’
We believe a day in recognition of the personal battles our Veteran brothers and sisters fight quietly each day after they return from service, and in honor of those passed will help further public awareness of this important national issue. 100,000 signatures must be collected in just 30 days – please help by spreading the word!
